Some people pursue enlightenment by sitting quietly and probing their inner consciousness; I make plane reservations. ~ Madeleine Albright

First Night in Caen

Here are a few pics of the places we walked by tonight.

A pedestrian street with lots of cool stores.

The street close to the hotel and the plaza where we had a light dinner outside.

One of the reasons I love France so much! Look at this charcuterie and cheese plate we shared.

Another street close to our hotel. The buildings are a bit dirty, but they are beautiful.
OK. That's all for tonight. Off to the WWII museum tomorrow!

We Made It To Caen!

Before I start the first blog entry, let me just request forgiveness for any of the poor grammar and punctuation that some of my fellow English teachers or grammar nerds might find in these entries. Remember that I will be writing most of these late at night after my brain has been filled with tons of historical information from our daily travels, and I probably won't take a lot of time to proofread! :-) So without further adieu.....

After a 10 hour flight (with only about an hour of sleep), we landed in Paris, picked up our car, and drove out to Caen (in Normandy). We arrived in Caen at 5 PM here which made it 8 AM at home. Awake for 24 hours! That's impressive!

Here's the cute little car we're driving. It's a Renault, and it's already proving to have great gas mileage!

Our hotel is in Caen's city center, and its surrounded by pedestrian streets! It's just beautiful! We're headed out for a walk and dinner now, so I'll post a couple of pictures later. Bon soir!
